Island Infrastructure for Mining and Exploration Support |
Port Esquivel is a multipurpose deep water port that currently languishes with an 80% excess handling capacity and is located only 15 miles south of the property. The port is owned and managed by West Indies Aluminum Co which is owned by RUSAL. Twenty percent of the port handling capacity was used primarily for the export of refined alumina and off loading of supplies and equipment for the bauxite mining industry. This has been curtailed due to the recent downturn in global demand for alumina. The east side of the wharf is used for the import export of cement, grain, liquid and vapor fuels. The port is serviced by both paved road and rail and is available for third party use. |
